Children’s cancer fundraiser at Willie McBride’s on Saturday

HOBOKEN – Volunteer Jim O’Brien, in tandem with St. Baldrick’s Foundation and other volunteers, will put on a fundraiser at Willie McBride’s on Saturday, March 9 at 3 p.m. The event is free and will support close to 15 people as they have their heads shaved in support of children’s cancer.
O’Brien has been putting on the event at Willie McBride’s, 616 Grand St., for several years.
“I read an article a couple of years back about a child who had passed away from cancer and decided it was time to get on board. My friends and I used to throw a St. Patrick’s Day party and it dwindled over the years so we decided to tie it in with that. It’s just a gathering of family and neighbors in the back room cheering on the ‘shavees’.”
O’Brien said there is a licensed barber present to cut the hair. The event is intended to show solidarity with kids and their families being challenged by cancer.
