HOBOKEN — A sinkhole opened at Eighth Street and Willow Avenue in Hoboken Thursday morning around 3 a.m. and swallowed a small car. Cars on either side were towed, and the widening hole spat mud on Willow Avenue and up Eighth Street. Basements were flooded.
The hole was caused my a water main break.
Police, United Water, and emergency officials were on the scene.

No people were injured. Various news crews arrived early in the morning, perhaps lured in the wake of a sinkhole in Florida that suddenly swallowed a man earlier this month while he was resting in bed at home.
