Anthony Giraldo makes North Bergen history

The township honored wrestler Anthony Giraldo with a proclamation during the Wednesday, March 27 commissioners meeting. He was cheered on by family, his fellow North Bergen wrestlers, coaches, and teachers. He is a Guttenberg resident and a junior at High Tech High School in North Bergen.
The proclamation says he is the second person in the high school’s history to win a state championship.
“Anthony’s Giraldo’s wrestling career began when he was a fourth grade student at Anna L. Klein School in Guttenberg,” says the proclamation. “Anthony Giraldo’s high school resume includes Bergen County Tournament Championship, fourth and fifth place at The Beast of the East Tournament, and fifth, fourth and first place in the state in different weight categories. This record-breaking achievement is attributed to the talents and skill of hard work, dedication and the love of sports which has earned him the recognition he is deserving of.”
Mayor Nicholas Sacco, along with commissioner and Superintendent of High Tech High School Frank Gargiulo, boasted about their hometown record-breaking legend.
“What made this more remarkable is that according to experts Anthony was not supposed to win the championship; he was supposed to place somewhere around fifth,” said Mayor Sacco. “It’s a phenomenal career so far and there’s a lot more to come.”
