JERSEY CITY AND BEYOND – Jersey City residents Jose Carlos Cambero and Emily Williams sent an email to friends with a photo of what their tub looks like due to the flooding this week. Not really a place to clean up.
They write:
Nothing like a minor spring storm to expose one of the worst problems that Jersey City suffers. I have attached a picture that shows to all of you what I mean: sewer water in our basements. By the way, if you haven’t noticed, the little darker spots in the bath tub are fecal matter. This is the place where our 3-year old takes baths every day. I was hoping that during this election period, our city officials would at least address this issue that’s so important to their constituents, but that doesn’t seem to be the case, until something like this happens, unfortunately, quite too often. Maybe it’s not surprising that our city officials choose to ignore this problem, after all this is a problem in the guts of the city that none can see.
I have heard rumors of some repairs on our block, 9th Street between Monmouth and Brunswick, but to date, no one has confirmed that. Can anybody please inform us whether work to repair our sewer is planned, what kind, and when it is going to start? This is an urgent matter that presents a threat to our health and the health of our children. I have copied the “hudsonreporter” in this email. I would be happy to provide more extensive information regarding this problem, in case they are interested to inform our neighbors about the poor job that the City and JCMUA is doing to deal with this problem.
