WEST NEW YORK AND BEYOND — North Hudson Community Action Corporation (NHCAC) will host a Health Fair on Friday, May 10, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Head Start/Early Head Start Early Childhood and Family Engagement Center located at 5800 Kennedy Blvd. (entrance on Washington Street), in West New York. As active members in the National Community Action Partnership, NHCAC, along with CAAs in New Jersey and across the nation, will hold a number of events during the month of May aimed at bringing attention to the commitment CAA’s have in helping millions of families and individuals escape poverty each year.
The event will offer residents free dental, blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes screenings, along with nutrition and health information. Informational booths will highlight a few of the programs and services under the CAA’s umbrella: WIC; immigration assistance; job training and placement; ESL and adult instruction; emergency housing and assistance. “Since 1965, North Hudson CAA has been assisting low-income residents during their most difficult personal and financial situations. We give people hope,” said Rosemary Lavagnino, Director of Community Action Programs. “Our strength is not only in our programs, but in our follow up; in this way, we build long term wellness and a healthy and prosperous community.”
Horizon Health, JCMU Children’s Special Services, and the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency are just a few of the Agency’s partners that will be on hand to provide additional information and services. “Our goal is to ensure individuals and families have access to the services and resources needed to help them achieve the skills necessary to move toward gaining and maintaining self-sufficiency,” said Interim President and CEO Michael Shababb.
