Chris Kelly, a Bayonne High 2012 graduate, went off to Delaware Valley College, tried out, and made the pitching staff for Aggie’s baseball team as a walk on. Kelly’s first game came on opening day when he came in relief of a 3-3 tie. Chris threw three hitless innings striking out six to earn the win. Chris continued to pitch well for the Aggies and broke the single-season saves record that stood for the previous 10 years. Along with the saves he led the team in appearances with 18, second on the team in ERA, and tied for first in wins. With these stats the school announced that he was DVC’s Athlete of the week. On May 2 the Mid Atlantic Freedom Conference named Chris to first team All-Conference as relief pitcher, the only rookie to get the honor. He also led the conference in saves for the season.
