Why does the board of education in Hoboken spend so much?

Dear Editor:
In my last letter to the editor I asked a question, “Why, if instructional costs are in line with comparable districts, is the total cost of the district so high, and what are the major costs contributing to this?” I was hoping for a meaningful response from either the president of the Board of Education or the Superintendent of Schools. Thus far, there has been complete silence.
I think the people of Hoboken have the right to know why so much money, $64.7 million, is being spent by the school district. Policy makers should welcome the opportunity to discuss, in a public forum such as this, how effectively they are spending public funds.
