Griffin, Cifuentes storm Bruins to win

The Red Wings and Bruins met for their final JCC of Bayonne’s Floor Hockey Jr. Division regular season bout with “Defense” clearly on the back burner. Points piled up quickly as the Bruins took a 3-0 lead as Ryan Griffin drilled in two goals while Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes picked up a goal and two assists. The Red Wings got going on offense when Drew Radil zipped in a goal off a pass from team captain Megan Feeley to make it 3-1, Bruins. Fireworks continued as Cifuentes made it 4-1 Bruins only to watch Drew Radil answer with his second goal for the Wings to keep the game tight at 4-2, Bruins. Needing some breathing room, the Bruins’ Matt Miceli assisted his three sport buddy Ryan “Iron” Griffin on two more net darts as the Bruins leaped out to a 6-2 advantage. With plenty of time remaining, the Red Wings chipped away as Megan Feeley pumped in two goals and assisted Drew Radil on his third goal of the game as the Wings pulled closer at 6-5, Bruins. As the Wings returned to their rearview mirror, the Bruins once again hit the gas as Cifuentes and Griffin bullseyed two more goals to send the Bruins back up by three at 8-5. Before the Bruins could hit the cruise control, the Red Wings were back on their tails as Declan McCormick and Megan Feeley hit their mark to pull back within a goal at 8-7, Bruins. As both teams hit the home stretch, the Bruins once again built a three goal lead as Thomas Canela and Matt Miceli assisted “Iron” Griffin on his sixth and seventh goal of the brawl to balloon the Bruins’ late game advantage to 10-7. With all the focus put on scoring, both the Bruins’ Victor Mendolaro and the Red Wings’ Declan Good handled their castaway goal tending duties by staying in survival mode for the entire course of the game. Things got even dicier when the Wings’ Declan McCormick notched his second assist by working the ball to Drew Radil who made it 10-8, Bruins with his fourth goal. The game long offensive fireworks finally fizzled out as the Bruins’ Victor Mendolaro held on the two big saves to clinch the Bruins 10-8 victory.
