The Christie Administration and the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) are now providing New Jersey drivers and non-driver ID holders of all ages the opportunity to Skip the Trip to a motor vehicle agency and renew by mail. We respect your time and want you to be able to spend it doing the things you want to do.
In November 2012, we began offering customers born on or before December 1, 1964 the ability to renew their licenses and non-driver IDs by mail. Our initial Skip the Trip initiative yielded positive results. In fact, 340,000, or 60 percent of those invited to renew by mail, took us up on our offer. This huge success made us step up our efforts to be able to expand the program to all of New Jersey’s eligible drivers and ID holders.
Last week, the MVC began mailing our first batch of Skip the Trip invitations to approximately 140,000 residents due to renew their documents in October. That equates to 1.5 million people over the next year that have the option to stay home and renew by mail. If our acceptance rate holds, that means about 1 million less people will be visiting our agencies in the next 12 months. That’s a good thing for them and it’s a good thing for those people who must still visit an agency to conduct their business.
We think this is another good example of how the Christie Administration and the MVC are dedicated to improving the customer experience and making our services more convenient to the public.
