Students first

To the Editor:

On September 3, the 2013-2014 school year began with the faculty meeting the administrators in the Bayonne High School auditorium. The agenda included the following: 1.That our students surpassed the scores on N.J. mandated tests; 2. That it be documented that no other school had seniors accepted to all but two Ivy League universities; 3. That the graduates earned $17,000,000 in scholarships; 4. That BHS was recognized for having AP scholars; and 5. That an Arts and Scholars special academy was initiated.
All of the above is quite impressive and should neither be overlooked nor underestimated. Yet in a lengthy and a wordy Mayor’s column in your newspaper, titled “School days again” the word “teacher” never appeared! This is curious and disappointing. I guess the faculty and administration espouse students first. Whereas the Board of Estimate does not or did I miss something?
