HOBOKEN — Dozens of families participated in Strollathon for Rett Syndrome at Maxwell Place in Hoboken over the weekend.
The International Rett Syndrome Foundation has raised $8 million in the last 10 years by encouraging local families to host Strollathons in their area.
According to the group’s website, “Rett Syndrome is a unique postnatal neurological disorder that is first recognized in infancy and seen almost always in girls, but can be rarely seen in boys. [The] syndrome has been most often misdiagnosed as autism, cerebral palsy, or non-specific developmental delay. Rett syndrome is caused by mutations on the X chromosome on a gene called MECP2.”
