Johnson, Morrone ignite Chargers

The JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Sr. Division rolled into week three with the (1-1) Eagles facing the (1-2) Chargers. The Chargers scored first on a 30 yard scamper by Adrianna “Magic” Morrone and a two point dash by Ryan Giocoli. The Eagles answered with a coast to coast TD bomb from Janaaron Aquino to Jaime Betancur making it 8-6, Charges. With James Johnson manning the QB post, the Chargers stretched their lead to 16-6 as Johnson tossed a 20 yard TD strike to “Magic” Morrone and then handed off to Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes on a two point sweep. After making it 16-12 on Jaime Betancur’s second TD grab the Eagles’ defense stepped up as Anthony Minotto hauled in a interception to set up Ryan Ballance’s go ahead TD catch. Trailing 18-16, another Chargers’ errant pass attempt fell prey to the Eagles’ DB Janaaron Aquino at half court. One play later, Aquino made it 24-16 on a 20 yard TD run. Down by 8 at the half, the Chargers tied the bout at 24 all on “Magic” Morrone’s third TD and a two point pass to Ryan Giocoli. The Eagles quickly regained the lead at 32-24 on a leaping TD grab by Anthony Minotto and a two point snare by Betancur. It took the Chargers two plays to make it 32-30 as Ahmad McGill raced wire to wire on a TD jaunt. After two key defensive stops by Jazmine Garcia, the Chargers’ offense was back in action as Ryan Giocoli’s TD and two point reception gave the Chargers a 38-22 lead. Once again, the Eagles answered as Janaaron Aquino notched a second TD on a 20 yard pass from Betancur. With two minutes remaining, the Eagles “D” made a stand with Jan Patrick Egan and Chris Ballance anchoring the ranks. The Chargers’ “D” returned the favor and their offense cashed in with two TDs by “Magic” Morrone who ended the game with five TDs as her Chargers’ squad captured a 50-38 victory.
