A funeral mass was offered Nov. 9 at St. Aloysius Church, Jersey City, for James F. Kennedy, 96, a lifelong resident of Jersey City. He passed away Nov. 5 in the care and comfort of his family. He was born to Thomas and Anna Kennedy. He married the love of his life, Eileen Norton in 1940, and she predeceased him in 1972. Together they raised five children in their Jersey City home. A World War II Veteran of the Navy, James was a member of the Jersey City Fire Department, serving for 39 years in many capacities. He was honored as Irishman of the Year in 1985. His generosity and kindness were an inspiration to his family and community. He will be forever remembered as a great father, son, uncle and friend to many. In addition to his parents and his wife, he is predeceased by his sister Eleanor Kennedy (1923) and his oldest son, James M. Kennedy (2002). Surviving are his four children and their spouses; Jack and Donna Kennedy, Eleanor and Jack Flood, Bill and Joan Kennedy and Eileen and Peter Tyrrell. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Services arranged by the Greenville Memorial Home, Jersey City.
