City Council candidacy

To the Editor:

My name is Washington Flores and I am a resident of Bayonne’s Third Ward. I was raised in nearby Jersey City and moved to Bayonne 15 years ago and have lived in the third ward since. For years I have watched career politicians run this once great city into the ground, from bonding away our children’s future to creating a huge bureaucracy in city hall. The current mayor and city council ran on a platform of change but they have been no different than their predecessors. The mayor and his team have not accomplished anything promised during their campaign. They have failed to stabilize our taxes as we have seen our tax bills increase every year since they have taken office. They have failed to bring any real development to the Military Ocean Terminal while giving part of it away to the Port Authority for far less than market value. They promised us jobs with the development of Route 440 but the jobs never came. We were promised the revitalization of Broadway; meanwhile there are currently more than 60 vacant businesses. The mayor and his team promised a better quality of life by ensuring Bayonne was kept clean but we still have to clean up twice a week after our garbage is picked up. Those who are close to me know that I have always been outspoken when it comes to the quality of our community. Whether in a letter to the editor or standing up for the members of our community at city council meetings, I have never been afraid to voice my displeasure with the current state of our city. This is why it is with great pleasure and excitement that I announce my candidacy for city council in Bayonne’s Third Ward. Our community deserves more than empty campaign promises. Our community deserves real leadership. Our community deserves leaders who are not afraid to speak and fight for what is best for Bayonne. It is for these reasons that I have decided to join Anthony Zanowic and his team as we move forward in reaching every resident with our plan for a better Bayonne. Our team is not comprised of career politicians. We are your neighbors, the people you see when you walk down the street. We are the people you talk with while waiting in line at the store. We are everyday residents who are fed up with the current state of our city and decided to take a stand. During the upcoming months I look forward to meeting you and hearing your concerns regarding our city and our ward. I look forward to discussing a brighter future for Bayonne with you. Mostly I look forward to working with you as we bring our city back to life. Together we can make a better Bayonne. Please feel free to contact me anytime at flores@zanowicformayor.com.
