Santa parade sponsored by Fire and Rescue
Santa Claus is coming to town on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
The 14th annual Santa Parade, presented by the officers and firefighters of the North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue in conjunction with the towns of Guttenberg, North Bergen, Union City, West New York, and Weehawken, will start at 7 p.m.
The parade route is Bergenline Avenue, from 85th to 32nd streets.

Township author debuts book Thursday
Mayor Nicholas Sacco has announced that North Bergen teacher and author Heather Ricco will debut her children’s book, “Estimation Mountain and the Valley of Tens,” on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the North Bergen Main Library, 8411 Bergenline Ave.

Special anniversary prayer service Dec. 8 for church
On Sunday, Dec. 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, St. Joseph’s Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel in North Bergen, 7615 Broadway, will hold a special prayer service at 3 p.m. to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the chapel.
All parishioners of St. Joseph’s main church and chapel, past and present, are invited to attend.
Child advocate group holding informational session
Are you interested in helping children in the foster care system? If so, Hudson County CASA (court appointed special advocate) is recruiting volunteers to advance the best interests of abused and neglected children.
An informational session, addressing the program and the role of its volunteers, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. in Room 400 of the Hudson County Administration Building, 595 Newark Ave., Jersey City.

Sixth Annual Legends Ball at Saint Peter’s University on Dec. 12
The Sixth Annual Legends Ball will be presented by the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce at Saint Peter’s University on Thursday, Dec. 12.
More than 300 guests will join the chamber to honor distinguished leaders in Hudson County for their long-term commitment and outstanding contributions to the business, cultural and educational life of the region.
This year’s honorees are Daniel Altilio, president and chief professional officer of the United Way of Hudson County; Benjamin J. Dineen III, director of resource development and marketing of the United Way of Hudson County; Sr. Maeve McDermott, founding co-principal of St. Patrick and Assumption/All Saints School in Jersey City, now retired; and Joseph F. Scott, FACHE, president and CEO of Jersey City Medical Center/LibertyHealth.
The Legends Ball, designed to recognize the contributions of outstanding business and community leaders, highlights the revitalization of one of the state’s oldest regional chambers of commerce.

Meeting/election for reinstatement of a Hudson County Common Law Grand Jury
“We the People” will be holding an election for the reinstatement of the Common Law Grand Jury on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the Union City Public Library, 324 43rd St. (entrance is on 43rd Street and New York Avenue),
“The Common Law Grand Jury is a little-known element of the United States Constitution that empowers sovereign persons, citizens, with a remarkable tool of self-governance and government oversight,” said spokesman Jayson Burg.
There will be a 35-minute presentation starting at 6:45 p.m., followed by a showing of hands vote. Participants will then be invited to register for the Common Law Grand Jury.
“There is no affiliation with any political party and this is purely a ‘We the People’ movement,” Burg said.
This event is hosted by Hudson County, New Jersey Liberty Alliance Chapter of the National Liberty Alliance.
