Grand Prix will now come to streets of West New York in 2015
The Grand Prix of America at Port Imperial, a Formula One World Championship race slated for June 2014 on the streets of Weehawken and West New York, has been postponed. GP America executive chairman and promoter Leo Hindery, Jr. and his team said on Wednesday that they are working on restructured financial arrangements for a 2015 race.
Hindery acknowledged the challenge of completing the intricate financial structure for the event, which will run on a 3.2-mile temporary street circuit along the Hudson River, with the New York City skyline as the backdrop.
“Our entire management team and our supporters in New Jersey, New York and throughout the Formula One community obviously want to see the inaugural Grand Prix of America at Port Imperial take place as soon as possible,” he said. “Bringing a world-class race to the world’s largest media market is a huge undertaking that has required balancing construction of our road course, without tapping any public money, with the sport’s own timing demands.”
He added, “I want to thank Formula One Management, Governor Chris Christie, Mayors Richard Turner and Felix Roque, Roseland Property Company and the other local property owners involved for their patience while we’ve worked to get this right so that we can finally go racing in 2015.”
Free Christmas party for seniors
The city of Union City is holding the Annual Senior Citizens Christmas Party on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 12 p.m., 2013 at 12 p.m. at Colin Powell School located on New York Avenue and 15th Street.
The event will consist of dinner, live music, and a musical presentation by West Hudson Opera.

Free holiday concert from HRPAC
The UBS Atrium Series on the Weehawken waterfront will host a special holiday concert on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 12:30 p.m. at the UBS Atrium in Lincoln Harbor.
Calmus is a First Prize Winner of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition. This a cappella quintet embodies the rich choral tradition of its hometown of Leipzig, Germany, the city so closely associated with Bach and Mendelssohn.
The Atrium concert will follow on the heels of a performance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Earlier this year, the ensemble debuted on Lincoln Center’s Great Performers series.
Calmus has over a dozen recordings to its credit. An active concert schedule worldwide has taken Calmus across Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, and North and South America. The group has won numerous prestigious awards including first prizes at the fourth annual Robert Schumann Choral Competition, the International Competition for Vocal Ensembles in Finland, and the 37th Tolosa Choral Contest in Spain.
Whether singing music by those German masters or another work in its diverse repertoire, Calmus captivates both audiences and critics with its charming stage presence, flawless technique and entertaining presentation.

Child advocate group holding informational session
Are you interested in helping children in the foster care system? If so, Hudson County CASA (court appointed special advocate) is recruiting volunteers to advance the best interests of abused and neglected children.

Sixth Annual Legends Ball at Saint Peter’s University on Dec. 12
The Sixth Annual Legends Ball will be presented by the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce at Saint Peter’s University on Thursday, Dec. 12.
More than 300 guests will join the chamber to honor distinguished leaders in Hudson County for their long-term commitment and outstanding contributions to the business, cultural and educational life of the region.
This year’s honorees are Daniel Altilio, president and chief professional officer of the United Way of Hudson County; Benjamin J. Meeting/election for reinstatement of a Hudson County Common Law Grand Jury
“We the People” will be holding an election for the reinstatement of the Common Law Grand Jury on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the Union City Public Library, 324 43rd St. (entrance is on 43rd Street and New York Avenue),
“The Common Law Grand Jury is a little-known element of the United States Constitution that empowers sovereign persons, citizens, with a remarkable tool of self-governance and government oversight,” said spokesman Jayson Burg.
There will be a 35-minute presentation starting at 6:45 p.m., followed by a showing of hands vote. Participants will then be invited to register for the Common Law Grand Jury.
“There is no affiliation with any political party and this is purely a ‘We the People’ movement,” Burg said.
This event is hosted by Hudson County, New Jersey Liberty Alliance Chapter of the National Liberty Alliance.

Fire and Rescue sponsoring Santa parade
Santa Claus is coming to town!
The 14th annual Santa Parade presented by the North Hudson fire officers and firefighters of the North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue, in conjunction with the towns of Guttenberg, North Bergen, Union City, West New York, and Weehawken, will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11, starting at 7 p.m.
The parade route is Bergenline Avenue, from 85th to 32nd streets.
Social service group seeking food and clothing donations
The Garden State Episcopal CDC is seeking the public’s help in terms of food and clothing donations.
Garden State Episcopal CDC, based in Jersey City and Union City, provides social services and housing for people touched by homelessness and loss.
The group is also collecting food and clothing donations for its Homeless Memorial Service, the week of Dec. 21, to be distributed to people who are displaced or homeless.
