Suspects in Short Hills Mall murder plead not guilty

HOBOKEN – The four Essex County men charged with the Dec. 15 carjacking/murder of Dustin Friedland, a Hoboken lawyer, plead not guilty in a Newark courtroom on Wednesday morning, according to a report on NJ.com.
Hanif Thompson, 29, of Irvington, and Karif Ford, 31, Basim Henry, 32, and Kevin Roberts, 33, all of Newark, entered their pleas via attorney before Judge Peter Vazquez. The men were charged with murder, carjacking, conspiracy and weapons possession.
If found guilty, the men could be sentenced to a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Friedland was murdered in the parking garage of the Short Hills Mall when two men pulled a gun on him in an effort to steal his Range Rover. Friedland’s wife, Jamie, was unharmed in the incident.
Roberts, Thompson, and Ford were arrested in their homes, and Henry was arrested in Easton, Pa. – Dean DeChiaro
