BAYONNE – A woman was arrested last week after she was allegedly caught painting Satanic messages on the front door and sign of St. Andrews Church at Fifth Street and Broadway a few days before Christmas. Police caught a woman in the act after the church had been painted on Dec. 22.
Churchgoers said there two previous incidents involving similar graffiti on church property. A few days before Christmas someone used chalk to scrawl similar messages.
In this most recent case, Satanic images were scrawled across the front doors to the church, the side door, the front and back of the church sign, as well as the front door of the rectory across the street. This included the number 666 in red chalk.
Public works spent the morning cleaning off the marks, which were created in water-based paint. They included satanic circles, upside down crosses, and the repeated name of the devil.
