BAYONNE — Firefighters battled a four-alarm, early afternoon blaze on 10th Street off of Avenue C on Thursday, Jan. 9, before bringing it under control in two hours.
Residents were evacuated quickly, and there were no injuries to them or firefighters, according to Public Safety Director Jason O’Donnell.
“The call came in just after 1 p.m.,” he said. “Four buildings and six to eight (dwellings) were affected.”
About two dozen residents were displaced.
“All residents were evacuated. All got out unharmed. No fire department or EMS personnel got hurt,” O’Donnell said. “I can’t ask for more that.”
As of Friday morning, no cause for the fire had been determined.
“We started the investigation yesterday; it will be under investigation today,” O’Donnell said.
The Jersey City, Hoboken, North Hudson, and Kearny fire departments responded under mutual aid agreements.
A strong fire department presence was still visible on the scene several hours later, and units were there overnight on fire watch, according to the public safety director. – Joseph Passantino
