Super Storm Sandy, Hurricane Irene, and any soaking rain remind us that Hoboken began as a bluff overlooking a swamp. And, for as long as anyone can remember, Hoboken politics could be described in the same way.
Dawn Zimmer is beginning to drain both swamps: bringing integrity to city government, and working to protect Hoboken from future flooding. Her vision of a more open and honest approach to governance, with the goal of bringing a better quality of life to Hoboken’s citizens – for example, to temper runaway development – had her running afoul of the keepers of the Sandy recovery purse. Stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea, her principled response is courageous, and deserves our gratitude and support. She certainly has mine. Who knows – maybe Zimmer’s actions will help drain the swamp in Trenton as well.
