Chugging along at (3-0), the Comets sit atop the standings in the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Soccer Sr. Division while the (1-2) Sonics hold a faint grip on the second spot. The head to head duel was heated right out of the gate as the Sonics’ Drew Radil, Joshua Verzosa, Drew Radil and team captain James Johnson kept the Comets high powered offense in check While their defense ruled, the Sonics’ offense pounced out to a 1-0 lead as Jared Radil zipped a pass to Johnson who nailed the opening volley. Corralled for most of the game, the Comets’ dynamic scoring duo of Brayden Cotter (22 points) and Alexandro Gonzalez (21 points) finally got on track with Gonzalez assisting Cotter on the game tying goal. Unfazed by the set back, the Sonics’ Allen McComb drilled a scoring bomb from half court while Johnson notched the assist. Down 2-1, the Comets continued to struggle until goal tender Alexandro Gonzalez retied the bout at 2 all with a net to net bullseye. The 2-2 score stayed in the lockbox until there was just under ten minutes remaining when the Comets’ offense caught fire with Mackenzie Woods (1) and Brian Cotter (2) notching three goals off assists from Chloe Gregory, Brayden Cotter, and Brian Cotter. Up 5-2, the Comets turned to super sweepers, Colin Woods and Elliott Santana to weather the Sonics’ thunderous late game rally and clinch the 5-2 victory.
