Shaw, Orczykowski lift Rockets

Still in search of their first victory, the (0-2) Rockets faced a tough challenge as they took on the (1-1) Sonics in a week 3 JCC of Bayonne Indoor Soccer Sr. Division bout. After fifteen scoreless minutes, the Sonics’ team captain, James Johnson, took advantage of a defensive miscue by the Rockets and cashed in on a penalty shot. Trailing 1-0, the Rockets’ Chris Shaw zipped in the game tying goal off a pinpoint assist by Meghann Mock. Through out the game both defenses controlled the pace with Natallyah Teixeira, Angel Martinez and an amazing goal tending effort by Eric Orczykowski fueling the Rockets while Allen McComb, Drew and Jared Radil, and goal keeper Joshua Verzosa held the fort for the Sonics. Dead locked at 1 all, the Rockets finally lifted off as Chris Shaw nailed two more net shakers with Kevin Aguilar and Maddie Markowski on the assists to give the Rockets a 3-1 advantage. Stunned but not derailed by the Rockets’ scoring burst, the Sonics went on a full out shooting blitz and quickly made it 3-2 as Brendon Ferreira battled the ball to James Johnson who pegged the scoring gem. As the Sonics blasted away, the Rockets regained their defensive foothold to hang on for a hard fought 3-2 victory.
