JERSEY CITY — Two people have been confirmed dead and two more were still missing after noon as a result of a four-alarm fire that affected a series of row houses on Grant Avenue on Wednesday morning.
Bob McHugh, a spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety, said four people had been unaccounted for, two in their 80s and their two sons.
The two bodies recovered just prior to noon were removed from the fire scene and are currently in the custody of the Hudson County Medical Examiner to determine identity.
The first alarm was reported at 1:07 a.m. and several of the row houses were fully engaged when fire fighters arrived on the scene.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were transported to Jersey City Medical Center and later released.
Four homes were heavily damaged with as many as 25 people displaced, officials said.
