WORLD’S SWEETEST OBITUARY? Anonymous person pens paean to Hoboken native

HOBOKEN — An obituary in the Billings (Montana) Gazette this past weekend, written about a 54-year-old woman, may be one of the sweetest ever. The author’s name is not there, but that person was apparently not her first husband, who is mentioned separately in the obit.
It starts off, “The love of my life, Vicki Baldwin, 54, passed away March 15, 2014, at our home in Billings. She was born March 23, 1959, in Hoboken, N.J., to Cathy and George LaChance. At a young age the family packed up and moved to San Diego with a short stay in Arizona. Vicki was raised in California, in a large blended family, by Cathy and Jack Nickel.”
In an unusual twist, the author apparently bears no ill toward his lost love’s first spouse, who is praised in the obit. Then, it says, “Vicki loved, cared and changed for the better all of us that was blessed to know and love her. Vicki is now in heaven waiting for us to join her. Though we miss her and need her now, I am looking forward to being with Vicki again for eternity. This world was a better place with Vicki in it.”
We should all be so lucky to live a life worthy of an obit like that.
