A funeral mass took place March 15 at St. John the Baptist Church for Jean L. Brando, 94, of Whitehall, formerly of Jersey City. She passed away on March 11 at Whitehall Manor Assisted Living Home. Born in Jersey City, Jean, her brother Vito and her sister Rose were the first set of triplets recorded in Jersey City. Jean had moved to the Phillipsburg area in 2005 to be closer to family. A graduate of Seton Hall University, where she received her BA and MA in education, Jean taught 8th grade at P.S. 6 in West New York for 38 years before retiring. A devout Catholic, Jean was known to visit the sick and various nursing homes opening her heart to everyone. Jean was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Rosary Society of St. Joseph’s of the Palisades Church as well as the NJEA. Jean is survived by her brother Anthony Brando and his wife Shirley, and her sister Marie Strakowski and her husband Walter; predeceased by siblings Joseph, Vito, Vincent, Nicholas Brando, Catherine Stanley, Emily Schwandt and Mary Brando. Jean is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
