Two men killed in shootings in Jersey City over weekend

JERSEY CITY — A 63-year old man was found shot dead in a driveway on Danforth Avenue in Jersey City on Sunday, April 6.
Jersey City police were dispatched to the area of Kennedy Boulevard and Danforth Avenue just after midnight on the report of shots being fired and a man down.
According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s office, responding officers found the victim, who has now been identified as George T. Smith, age 63, lying on the driveway of a Danforth Avenue home and unresponsive.
A neighbor and police officers attempted to resuscitate the victim until Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene. The victim was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center and pronounced dead at approximately 12:55 a.m.
The victim and his wife were returning home when they were apparently approached by two males. One of the males took the victim’s wife’s purse and the victim attempted to get it back when he was shot in his upper torso. Neighbors were alerted by screams from the victim’s wife and immediately called police.
The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is currently investigating the shooting with the assistance of the Jersey City Police Department.

Fatal shooting on Seidler Street

Also, a 48-year old man died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds after a Saturday, April 5 shooting on Siedler Street, said Hudson County Acting Prosecutor Gaetano T. Gregory.
Just after 2 p.m., Jersey City police responded to Seidler Street on the report of gun shots being fired.
Responding officers found the victim, who has now been identified as Kenneth Chisolm, age 48, on the hallway floor and unresponsive. Police began C.P.R. efforts until Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene. The victim was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center and pronounced dead at approximately 2:55 p.m. Homicide detectives believe that the victim walked out into the hallway from his apartment, where he was shot multiple times. The victim resided at that 28 Seidler Street apartment having just moved in recently.
The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is currently investigating the shooting with the assistance of the Jersey City Police Department. A motive has not been identified at this time.
