Red Wing, Bruins battle to O. T. tie

After notching their first victory, the (1-0) Bruins faced the (0-0) Red Wings in a 2014 JCC of Bayonne Jr. Division floor hockey duel. The Red Wings ruled the first 20 minutes as Michael Egan and Jake Peregrin each tallied a pair of goals off assists by Jordan Neustein, Michael McCollum with Egan and Peregrin also picking up assists. Stareing at a four goal deficit, the Bruins got on the board as Declan McCormick netted his first goal of the season with Megan Feeley on the assist. Up 4-1, the Red Wings’ Jake Peregrin soared in again and blasted his third goal of the bout. Once again, down by 4 (5-1), the Bruins caught fire as team co-captains Megan Feeley (4 goals, 1 assist) and Declan McCormick (1 goal 3 assists) lit up the scoreboard with 5 goals to take a 6-5 lead. Stunned by the turn about, the Red Wings regrouped to tie the fray at 6 all as Michael Egan hit the “hat trick” mark with his third goal. With time becoming a factor, both squads zeroed in on a victory as the Bruins’ Kasper Hooks and Arya Deshmuh held the defensive ranks while the Red Wings pushed the action up court. As things heated up the Red Wings’ Victor Mendolaro nailed his first goal of the season to make it 7-6 with just five minutes remaining. Two minutes, later, the Bruins cashed in on a fast break as Feeley zipped a pass to McCormick who sent the game into overtime with his third goal of the season. Inspite of an intensely fierce pace, neither team could muster a winning goal in O.T. as the donnybrook ended in a 7-7 tie.
