Feeley O.T. goal fuels Devils

After chomping at the bit for over two weeks, the JCC of Bayonne’s Sr. Division Floor Hockey teams finally got underway with an epic O.T. bout between the Devils and Islanders. Dead locked at 0-0 for most of the first period, the Devils took advantage of some pin point passing by Megan Feeley as Feeley assisted Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes and Jake Nowak on two scoring blasts. Down 2 zip, the Islanders’ team captain Malachi Smith blazed up court to make it a 2-1 game with a bullseye shot off an assist by Drew Radil. Playing in his first floor hockey contest, the Bruins’ multisport standout Ryan Giocoli made it 3-1, Bruins with a wrist shot from ten feet out. Undaunted by their two goal deficit, the Islanders’ Malachi Smith once again teamed up with Drew Radil to tie the fray at 3 all as Radil assisted Smith on two more goals. As both squads pounded away with rocket shots, the defenses stepped up as the Devils’ Matt Doyle and Santana Elliott held firm while Jared Radil, Jake Peregrin, Natallyah Teixeira, and Chloe Gregory joined forces to man the front for the Islanders. With the clock at 4 minutes remaining in regulation, the Devils’ team captain Jake Nowak took the reins and railed in his second goal off an assist by J. P. Egan as the “Twin Engines” made it 4-3, Devils. Once again, unfazed, the Islanders battled back as John Bautista slipped a pass to Smith who drilled in his fourth goal at the 2:11 mark to force overtime. The “sudden death” overtime period started off with a bang as each team zeroed in on a victory strike. With 1:04 remaining in O.T., the Devils’ fiery playmake Megan Feeley took a pass from Jake Nowak and cashed in with a game winning dart as the Devils captured a 5-4 overtime victory.
