Family pet perishes in trailer park fire; four residents displaced

BAYONNE – A dog was killed and four residents were displaced following an early-morning fire at a city trailer court on Friday, April 25.
The fire department responded to a call at 190 West 24th St. a little after 3:30 a.m.
Arriving units battled flames and smoke emanating from windows of trailer home A-19, and extending to the adjacent trailer, A-21, according to Bayonne Fire Chief Gregory Rogers.
“Firefighters were able to quickly advance fire hoses to protect and save the neighboring trailer, and advanced additional hoses to control and extinguish the main fire,” Rogers said in a statement.
The tenants of both trailers reportedly evacuated before firefighters’ arrival.
The occupant of the trailer where the fire originated lost his dog to the blaze, according to Rogers.
The fire damage to trailer A-19 was severe. Four people were displaced, with one occupant finding shelter with a friend, and the three others seeking shelter from the Red Cross.
The fire investigator in charge determined that the blaze originated in the kitchen of trailer A-19, Rogers said. The fire’s cause is still under investigation. –Joseph Passantino
