A mass of Christian burial was celebrated May 29 at Our Lady of Mercy Church for Concepcion C. Avila, 67. She passed away May 26 surrounded by her family. Born in the Philippines, Concepcion came to the United States as part of an exchange visitor program sponsored by Christ Hospital in Jersey City. She has been a resident of Jersey City and a registered nurse at Christ Hospital since then. Concepcion is also a longtime and faithful communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Concepcion was the wife of Romeo C. Avila; mother of Cynthia Veluz and husband Wally, Melanie C. Avila and Christie C. Avila; grandmother of Andrew, Aaron and Adrian Pacis and Claudette and Leo Veluz; sister of Ruben Catipon, Maura Manalo and the late Edito Catipon and Maria Avecilla. Concepcion is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends throughout the community. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
