HUDSON COUNTY — The results of the Tuesday, June 3 primary elections are in. However, absentee and provisional ballots may change the results of close races.
Not all races were contested. Here are the results of some of the contested ones, all Democratic primaries:
In the 1st District for county freeholder, Kenneth Kopacz, backed by Mayor Mark Smith, who is up for re-election in a runoff next week, amassed 2,245 votes. Rafael Augusto, backed by James Davis, was defeated with 1,199.
In the 3rd District, Gerard Balmir amassed 1,895 votes. Jeff Dublin atained 1,470. Esmeralda Trinidad got 400 and Arnold Williams got 76.
In the 5th District, in an upset, incumbent Anthony Romano got 2,150 votes, beating Phil Cohen, who was endorsed by the mayors of both Hoboken and Jersey City. Cohen got 1,534. Adela Santiago got 111.
In the 6th District, incumbent Tilo Rivas beat Jose Falto by a vote of 3.740 to 468.
Next door, in the 7th District, with 44 out or 45 districts reporting, Caridad Rodriguez beat out Jose Munoz by 2,322 to 1,568.
In the 8th District, Anthony Vainieri Jr. beat Henry Marrero 5,108 to 1,062.
