Man who allegedly invaded Union City, Weehawken schools is arrested

HUDSON COUNTY — Police apprehended a man over the weekend who they say was the intruder who allegedly sneaked into elementary schools in Union City and Weehawken last week, causing lockdowns in both schools.
Last week, eyewitnesses spied a stranger in the basement of a school in Union City. Videotape confirmed that he was in a Weehawken school later that day.
Over the weekend, Union City police, acting on tips, arrested a homeless Newark man outside of a shelter in that city.
He was also charged with entering the schools and with burglarizing Hoboken University Medical Center two days earlier, according to a report on NJ.com.
The media outlet reported that the 52-year-old man allegedly went to the second floor of the hospital and nabbed a handbag with cash and a cellphone, with a total value of more than $700.
Law enforcement told NJ.com that the man gave a statement incriminating himself.
