Dear Editor:
The recent passing of the resolution for the property on 9th and Marin is extremely disappointing. When my wife and I were looking for a neighborhood to buy in a few years ago to raise our young family we specifically picked the Hamilton Park neighborhood because of the family friendly feel of the neighborhood. This neighborhood gave us the family friendly feel of northern New Jersey, but without the hour and a half commute I would have to deal with day to day each way. Adding a building the size and with the unit density that KRE is looking to do is going to ruin the neighborhood feel of Hamilton Park. There are so few resources currently available for the people of Hamilton Park (i.e. schools, street parking, open spaces) the development will do nothing but stress these resources even further.
Additionally, what is more troubling is the tax incentives being given to the developers – these incentives are being given at the cost of the current taxpayers of Jersey City. Looking at all of the developments in Jersey City it is obvious that tax credits are not needed to encourage development in Jersey City. This is just a typical move by greedy developers and the lazy politicians that support them. From my understanding of the situation; there is little that can be done of this situation at this point. I will be sure to vote against all of the council representatives that voted for this resolution during the next election cycle. Thanks for thinking of the current citizens last.
