Bayonne director and actor headline New York theater production
Bayonne residents are the talent pool in two short plays opening together in New York next week.
“Grief” and “The Encounter” will run at the American Theatre of Actors, 314 West 54th St., from July 29 through Aug. 10.
Both productions are directed by Bayonne resident Robert Lise. The one act play “Grief” features Dan Gregory of Bayonne playing the character of Buster.
“Grief,” set in present day Upstate New York, is the story of family members who are grieving different issues in their own ways.
The play will be presented Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Elks Lodge planning Mystic motorcycle run
The Bayonne Elks Lodge 434 Motorcycle Committee is planning a motorcycle run to Mystic, Conn. on Aug. 31.
“Kick stands up at 8:30 a.m., in front of the lodge, 364 Broadway,” said spokeswoman Lisa DiLorenzo.
Since the event is a fundraiser, residents are asked to consider sponsoring a rider or making a donation to the Elks.
“The New Jersey State Elks Army of Hope is a wonderful organization that provides basic necessities to the families of fallen, injured, and deployed soldiers,” DiLorenzo said.
Corporate sponsors are welcome. Corporate or private donations of $50 or more will receive a certificate of appreciation. Checks should be made out to the Bayonne Elks Lodge 434 (memo: Army of Hope) or the New Jersey State Elks Army of Hope.
“We hope our invited guests join us that morning to wish our riders well, or welcome them home with a barbecue scheduled for 6 p.m. that day,” DiLorenzo said.

Chamber of Commerce summer event to be held Aug. 7
The Bayonne Chamber of Commerce will be holding its summer networking event on Aug. 7 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at the Liberty House Restaurant, Liberty State Park, Jersey City.
The evening will feature an open bar, hors d’oeuvres, and a DJ. The registration fee is $75 per person. Attendees are asked to RSVP by July 28.

No-fee adoptions available through July and August
Companion Animal Trust is waiving its adoption fees for all adult cats aged one year or older during July and August.
All cats are spayed, neutered, and vaccinated. The standard application process applies.

Gallery hosts “Nature Draws Itself” exhibit in August and September
The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission’s (NJMC) Flyway Gallery will host a digital illustration exhibit featuring nature and wildlife inspired by the beauty of the Meadowlands during August and September.
The show, “Nature Draws Itself and Other Works of Art,” by Lyndhurst artist E. Jessie Monaco, will be on display from Aug. 4, through Sept. 25. The Flyway Gallery is in the Meadowlands Environment Center in DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst, the home of the NJMC.
The exhibit features digital photographs of natural scenes with a side-by-side digital illustration of what Monaco imagines could be housed there.
“Her work is a fun and interesting demonstration of what the creative mind can imagine,” said NJMC spokesman Brian Aberback.
