HUDSON COUNTY — Ten years ago next month, Gov. James McGreevey resigned as governor of New Jersey with a sudden, surprise speech that focused on his coming out of the closet. The married man said he was a “gay American.” However, a possible sexual harassment lawsuit and other scandals were swirling around him at the time, and it wasn’t rumors about his sexual orientation that pushed him to resign.
Last week, in an exclusive interview, McGreevey talked about what that day was like, how he feels about it now, and more. He said he hasn’t seen Golan Cipel, the man who accused him of sexual harassment, since that speech 10 years ago.
Several area politicians also talked about the events of ten years ago and what they meant.
