JERSEY CITY – Mayor Steven M. Fulop will promote posthumously Police Officer Melvin Santiago, who was killed in the line of duty Sunday morning, to the rank of detective and will bestow the Department’s Medal of Honor on Officer Santiago, which is the highest honor for any police department.
The promotion and honor ceremony will take place at Officer Santiago’s wake at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 17th, 2014 at McLaughlin Funeral Home, 625 Pavonia Avenue.
