West Point Jazz Knights to perform on waterfront

Summer Concerts on the Hudson will present one of the USA’s most treasured musical groups, the West Point Jazz Knights, in a free concert open to one and all on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
The Hudson Riverfront Performing Arts Center, Inc. (HRPAC), a New Jersey not-for-profit, presents this summer-long series of open air concerts free of charge to the general public. It is co-sponsored by the Hudson Reporter newspapers.
Bringing over three decades of musical excellence to their audiences, the Jazz Knights present the best in big band favorites, popular music, and original compositions and arrangements for jazz ensemble. Members of the group are graduates of some of America’s most prestigious music schools and are recruited and selected through a competitive audition process specifically for service in the United States Military Academy Band at West Point.
Past and present members of the band have played with The Tommy Dorsey and Glen Miller Orchestras, and musical icons such as Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Ahmad Jamal, Chaka Kahn, and Prince.
Notable guests who have performed with the Jazz Knights include Dave Liebman, Rufus Reid, John Clayton, Eddie Daniels, Steve Turre, James Carter, Randy Brecker, Michael Abene, Jon Faddis, Gary Smulyan, and Benny Golson.
Featured on this concert will be one of the jazz world’s finest vocalists, Alexis Cole, and special guest, Grammy nominated vibraphone great, Stefon Harris.
