Edison woman arrested on DWI

Police responding to a call on Sept. 7 found that a woman had allegedly struck two cars, causing a chain reaction involving other vehicles, an official said.

Police were dispatched to an accident at 4:10 a.m. that day to Avenue B and 54th Street, according to Bayonne Police Lt. Janine Foy.

They found that Crystal M. Davis, 25, of Edison, driving a 4-door Honda Accord, had allegedly crashed into a double parked car and a parked vehicle while traveling north on Avenue B.

According to the police account, Davis allegedly struck a double-parked Scion in the northbound lane. The Scion then hit two parked cars, a Toyota Camry and an Acura.

Davis then allegedly veered to the left, crossed onto the other side of the roadway, and allegedly struck a Toyota Camry on the southbound side of Avenue B. Upon striking that Camry, she allegedly pushed it into the middle of the intersection of Avenue B and 54th Street.

Davis was taken to Bayonne Medical Center for minor injuries from the accident, Foy said. Blood was drawn from her, and no results were available.

Davis was charged with driving while intoxicated within 1,000 feet of a school (Woodrow Wilson), reckless driving, and driving while on the suspended list, according to Foy.

She was later released on a summons.

Man charged with marijuana possession

A Bronx, N.Y., man was taken into custody on Sept. 6 after an investigation revealed he allegedly possessed marijuana.

At 4:25 p.m., police observed Carlos Urena, 31, at Avenue A and 24th Street allegedly lighting what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette, according to Lt. Janine Foy. When Urena noticed the officers, he allegedly attempted to conceal something in the window of a car, a four-door silver Infiniti, at that corner.

Police approached him and took him into custody for allegedly possessing a marijuana cigarette.

At that point, Foy said, they observed in the car plastic containers, with two Ziploc bags containing suspected marijuana.

Urena was charged with marijuana possession of under 50 grams and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

He was later released on a summons.

Accident leads to further charges

Police officers who witnessed a driver allegedly hit a parked car and drive away caught up with him and charged him with additional offenses, an official said.

He was identified as John P. Prins, 29, of Seaview Avenue in Jersey City, Police Lt. Janine Foy said.

On Sept. 3 at 10:33 p.m., officers were at the corner of Kennedy Boulevard and 49th Street on an unrelated call when they saw Prins, driving a white Nissan Altima, allegedly strike a parked car and drive away.

Police said they then saw Prins drive down 49th Street, west of the Boulevard, and allegedly hit

a parked car.

“He [allegedly] crashed into a white Nissan Altima on the right-hand side of street and continued down 49th Street,” Foy said. “He then [allegedly] strikes a car on the opposite side of the street, a Gold Honda Accord, and then another parked vehicle on the same side of the street, a silver Infiniti.”

Officers approached Prins, and [allegedly] smelled the scent of an alcohol beverage on his breath and placed him under arrest, according to Foy.

He was taken to Bayonne Medical Center for minor injuries related to the accident. Blood was taken to measure blood-alcohol levels and no results were available yet.

Further investigation revealed that the car Prins was driving was [allegedly] stolen out of Hoboken on Aug. 18.

“He was charged with driving while intoxicated, receiving stolen property for being in possession of the stolen car, and two more summonses; one for reckless driving and one for being an unlicensed driver,” Foy said.

Prins’s bail was set at $25,000, with a 10-percent option. He was sent to Central Judicial Processing at the county courthouse.

Jersey City man allegedly stole from dollar store

A 43-year-old man was arrested on Sept. 4 for allegedly stealing laundry detergent from a Broadway establishment.

At 6:50 p.m., police were flagged down by an employee of Family Dollar, 577 Broadway, who reported that an individual had allegedly just stolen items from the store, Lt. Janine Foy said. He gave a description to officers.

Officers caught up with Mickey Smart, 43, of Rose Avenue in Jersey City, just off Broadway on 27th Street.

“When questioned, he admitted to being in Family Dollar and said he had purchased a candy bar,” Foy said. “At that point, the employee caught up with the police and informed them that the actor had [allegedly] placed detergent in his pants.”

At that point, Smart allegedly admitted that he had three bags of Tide detergent pods inside his three layers of pants that he was wearing, according to Foy.

Additional checks on Smart revealed that there were two warrants out for his arrest; one out of Bayonne for $7,500 and another for $100 out of Jersey City, Foy said.

The value of the items Smart allegedly took was $31.50.

He was sent to the county jail.
