UC and JC mayors to attend nursing home strike on Wednesday

A three-day strike began Tuesday at several nursing homes operated by Alaris Health in Hudson and Bergen Counties. Union City Mayor Brian Stack, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, and County Executive Tom Degise were expected to join workers at a rally in Union City at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 17, according to a press release. The rally will take place outside of Alaris Health at Castle Hill, 615 23rd St.
Contracts for the union workers expired over five months ago. Union 1199SEIU has been in discussions with Alaris regarding new contracts and other issues, including perceived staffing shortages.
The nursing home strikes will take place around the clock from Tuesday, Sept. 16 until Thursday, Sept. 18 at Alaris Health at Castle Hill in Union City and Alaris Health at Harborview in Jersey City; and from Wednesday, Sept. 17 until Friday, Sept. 19 at Alaris Health at Boulevard East in Guttenberg and Alaris Health at Rochelle Park in Rochelle Park.
