City swears in seven firefighters, including first woman

BAYONNE – The Bayonne Fire Department added seven new firefighters to its ranks on Thursday, Oct. 30, including the first female member in the department’s 108-year history.

Cailin Brodel and fellow firefighters Robert Baran, Ryan Bomba, Vincent Bottino, Vincent Oszmanski, Louis Pacyna, and Kenneth Sugrue took the oath of office administered by City Clerk Robert Sloan.

Veteran firefighter Salvatore Gaetani was also promoted to fire captain during the ceremony in the Dorothy E. Harrington City Council Chambers at City Hall.

Mayor James Davis, Public Safety Director Robert Kubert, Fire Chief Gregory Rogers, and others praised the newly graduated men and woman, and wished them well in their fire department careers.

“I want to thank you for your help in keeping the town safe,” said Councilman Gary La Pelusa. “It’s a great day in the city of Bayonne today.” – Joseph Passantino
