BAYONNE – Dancing, dining, and donuts were all part of the fun at the first Bergen Point Fall Festival held on Saturday, Oct. 18, from just below the 8th Street overpass down to the corner of 5th Street and Broadway.
A crowd of between 2,000 and 3,000 people was estimated midway through the fair, according to Bayonne Chief Financial Officer Terrence Malloy, also head of the city’s Urban Enterprise Zone, which partially funded the event.
Music, entertainment, food, inflatable rides, balloon sculpture, temporary tattoos, sand art, face painting, and art displays were among the attractions.
Vendors selling everything from stuffed animals, to doughnuts and premium coffee, to fine jewelry, were there. The Mona Lisa restaurant set up tables on the avenue for al fresco dining.
A stage was available for impromptu dancing, and many children took the occasion to show their moves.
A dog costume contest was held, and children had their photos taken with their favorite TV and movie characters.
A classic car show sponsored by the Windmill Alliance in the Trinity Parish parking lot added to the festivities.
The event was hosted by the Bergen Point merchants and the UEZ. – Joseph Passantino
