“Radilators” roar for Bengals

The JCC of Bayonne’s Sr. Division Flag Football League got rolling with the Chargers and Bengals going head to head in their 2014 season opener. The Bengals got out to a 14-0 advantage as QB Drew Radil zipped TD tosses to Jared Radil and Ian Giron, Giron also reeled in a two point pass in his flag football debut. Following a couple of near misses, the Chargers’ offense finally hit its stride as QB James Johnson connected with Jalen Nash for a 28 yard TD and Jaden Subacz for a two point dart to cut the Bengals’ lead to 14-8. With the Chargers back in the hunt, the “Radilators” Drew and Jared Radil once again hooked up for a 17 yard TD strike as QB Drew Radil stayed red hot. Trailing 20-8, the Chargers turned to their big man Kevin Aguilar who answered with a TD grab and a 20 yard TD sprint to tie the bout at 20 all. With less than five minutes remaining, both teams went to their short game with the Bengals running Andres Giron and Harsh Easwar on toss sweeps while mixing in quick slants to TE Kyle Arano. The Chargers countered with key defensive plays in the red zone to stall the Bengals’ march to paydirt. As O.T. loomed, the Bengals got one last chance and they hit their mark as Jared Radil blazed 10 yards for a TD followed by a diving two point snare to give the Bengals a 28-20 lead with just 28 seconds remaining. The Chargers went to work quickly with Kasper Hooks blasting straight up court for 10 yards. Two plays later, with the game on the line, the Chargers fell inches short as a sure TD pass sailed just out of the reach of a wide-open Jadan Subacz as the Bengals survived for a 28-20 win.
