Board of Education moves election to November

The Bayonne Board of Education voted to move the city’s new school board elections from April to November through a vote at the body’s meeting on Nov. 20, according to School Board President William Lawson.
The city voted to switch from a board appointed by the mayor to one elected by the voters in the recent general election.
Board members cited the cost of a springtime election, estimated to be as much as $200,000.
The school board vote was originally scheduled for April, but is now pushed back to November of next year.
“It just makes more sense to do it then, to save money,” Lawson said. “That’s an unbudgeted cost that would be in this current contract. It doesn’t make sense to take it (money) away from students and teachers.”
