Sporting chance

To the Editor:

Focusing on the spiritual, educational, and physical well-being of young people can only be beneficial to the individual, the family, and society in general. The recent headlines seem to indicate this is the correct path.
Spiritually, common sense has prevailed in bringing calm to religious services at a local church. Educationally, a working relationship ended the impasse over settling the teacher’s contract. Physically, revenue was found to cover the cost of a turf field and renovations at Donald Ahern Stadium.
This newspaper widely publicized the “Recreating Recreation” Program directed by Mayor James Davis. If I could offer one suggestion it would be to draw on the expertise of the retired Hall of Famers from Bayonne High School. This would include Jeff Stabile (basketball), Phil Baccarella (baseball), Rich Treonze (track), and Bill Broderick (tennis). Regarding the latter, have the tennis courts at BHS been renamed after this nationally and internationally (England) renowned fine gentleman?
