BURKE, JOHN E.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Nov. 7 at St. Aedan’s Church for John E. Burke, 86, of Jersey City. He passed away Nov. 2 with his family by his side. Born in Jersey City, John was a lifelong Jersey City resident. A graduate of Snyder High School, John served in the United States Army during WWII and then worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service before retiring 23 years ago. He also worked part time for Hudson Catholic in the maintenance division.
He was a longtime communicant of St. Aedan’s Church where he also served as the sexton and was a member of the Golden Club. John was predeceased by his parents, William and Helen Burke, son, James and his siblings. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eleanore “Sis” (nee’ Kearns) Burke; his children, Mary, Robyn and her husband Richard Tunnell, Helen and John; daughter-in-law, Sharon Doherty-Burke; grandchildren, Kelly, James, Joseph, Robert, Trevor, Samantha, Brandon, Liam and Aedan; great grandson Logan and many nieces, nephews and friends. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
