In athletics, public and private high schools should be separate

To the Editor:

I recently read a letter from Sen. Nicholas J. Sacco (D – 32nd District) regarding solutions to private and public high school recruitment controversies. I found this letter to be very intriguing due to the fact that a solution is long overdue.
While both proposals presented by the senator offer a clear end to this ongoing problem, I prefer the second option. We recently witnessed the efficiency and fairness involved with the separation of private and public high schools during the annual state football playoffs. Private schools are literally in a league of their own and should be treated that way. Public schools do not have the advantage of recruitment. A separation scenario would be an ideal solution to this unfair situation.
I hope to hear and read more about this important topic and I also hope a consensus can be reached. I am sure the majority of athletic directors and school administrators representing public high schools throughout our state are also concerned. The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association must take action and do so as soon as possible. I commend Senator Sacco for shining a light on this unavoidable issue.
Have a happy a holiday season and a great new year!
