LAMASTRA, DOMENICO

A funeral mass was offered Dec. 15 at Ss. Peter and Paul RC Church, Hoboken, for Domenico LaMastra, 86, of Hoboken. He passed away at Hoboken University Medical Center. Born in Molfetta, Italy, Domenico immigrated to Hoboken in 1956. An independent construction worker, Mr. LaMastra serviced both NJ and NY through his many years of employment with various building projects. A very veteran of the Italian Navy and an avid soccer enthusiast, Mr. LaMastra also enjoyed gardening. He will be remembered for his coaching of soccer to many young boys in Hoboken. In 1969 he was honored for his untiring efforts coaching and continued doing so with the Sportivo Soccer Club, where he was honored in 1979 for not only coaching, but also acting as committeeman for the club.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Antonetta; his two sons, Damiano and Giuseppe; and his daughters, Carmela Mezzina and Margherita LaMastra. He will be missed by their spouses, Dina, Nadia, and Savario (Sam). A tremendous loss in his life was the passing of his daughter, Anna M. Roberts in 2013. Domenico is the father-in-law of former Hoboken mayor, David Roberts. A great joy in his life were his ten grandchildren, Frank, Dominick, Amanda, David, Christopher, Nicholas, Daniel, Liana, Dominick, and Jacqueline. Mr. LaMastra shared a special closeness with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Giuseppe and Gina Marzocca. A host of nieces and nephews also survive him. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
