Resua sets pace as Bears win

Boasting the League’s stingiest defense, the (2-5-1) Bears knew they would have their wok cut out for them when they took on the (4-5) Colts and the league’s leading scorer Talen Alsop (152 pts in 9 games) in a JCC of Bayonne indoor flag football Jr. Division bout. Keying on Alsop, the Bears’ hardnosed defense built a 4-0 lead on two safeties as Matt Micelli. Nicholas Resua, Chandler Owens and Logan Page continued to be a flag football version of the LA Rams “Fearsome Foursome”. With all eyes on the Colts’ running attack, the multitalented Talen Alsop stayed patient and finally cashed in with a goal to goal TD gallop to cut the Bears’ lead to 8-6. Poised in striking range, the Colts continued to pound away as Roman Popowski and Raunak Verma joined Alsop in an effort to pierce the Bears’ stonewall defense. Meeting the Colts head on, team co-captains, Matt Miceli and Nicholas Resua, kept the Bears’ ballhawking defense at peak form with one spectacular stop after another. The Bears’ offense finally had the last word as Chandler Owens hauled in a 10 yard TD grab to close out the Bears’ 10-6 victory.
