With a shot at clinching the top playoff spot in the JCC of Bayonne’s indoor flag football Jr. Division, the (6-2) Jets took on the (2-5) Bears. On the opening play, the Jets set a defensive tone as Brenden McCall, Dylan Subacz, and Aaliyana Cifuentes swarmed the Bears’ ballcarrier for a safety and a 2-0 lead. Holding the high powered Jets’ offense to a 3 and out on their first possession, the Bears’ defense set up QB Matt Miceli’s offense as Miceli drilled a TD pass and two point dart to the surehanded Nicholas Resua to take an 8-2 advantage. The Jets quickly countered as Andres Giron raced full court for a TD followed by a two point sprint as the Jets regained the lead at 10-8. Staying with their ground game, the Jets tacked on another wire to wire TD sprint as Aaliyana Cifuentes notched her 6th TD of the season to give the Jets a 16-8 lead. With the clock becoming a factor, the Bears’ offense worked the ball up court with short passes to Logan Page and Chandler Owens to set up Nicholas Resua’s 20 yard TD run. One play later, the Bears tied the frey at 16 all as Resua reeled in a driving two point grab. Knotted in a tie with just twenty seconds remaining the Jets almost pulled out a regulation time win as QB Jake Bellero hit Andres Giron on a wheel route but the Bears’ Chandler Owens prevented the TD by making a sliding flag grab to force overtime. Taking one possession each with a shot at victory, the game’s defensive tone continued as neither squad could move in for a score leaving the bout tied at 16-16.
