JERSEY CITY — A three-alarm fire on Washburn Street in Jersey City shortly after midnight on Jan. 8 had firefighters skating on sheets of ice.
The blaze started in the bathroom at 55 Washburn St., causing its roof to partly collapse before spreading to the building next door.
No one was reported injured in the incident, but police closed a busy section of Baldwin Avenue from Newark Avenue to Route 139 for hours. Traffic to local schools and the Hudson County court facilities were diverted onto other streets.
